The metalworking process (metal plastic)

At Šumer d.o.o., metal plastic components are produced through a specialist process in which a metal part is inserted into a mould seat. When the tool closes, plastic fills the mould around the metal insert, creating one strong, integrated part. This approach — known as overmoulding — combines the structural strength of metal with the design flexibility of plastic in a single manufacturing step.

Metal plastic injection moulding is an effective alternative to conventional assembly using force or adhesives. The bond achieved is extremely strong, precise, and consistent across both small and large production batches. The process is widely used in automotive, electronics, and industrial applications where durability and tight tolerances are essential.

Our metal-plastics department operates on circular tables with a clamping force of 35–300 T, enabling a wide range of component sizes and geometries. We overmould the following plastics onto metal inserts: PP, POM, ABS, PC, PS, SEBS and TPE.

We can produce both large and small batches in metal plastics.
