What is laser sheet metal cutting

At Šumer d.o.o., we offer precise laser cutting of sheet metal for a wide range of materials and thicknesses, suitable for both prototypes and high-volume production.

When it comes to sheet metal cutting with a laser, we are talking about 2D technology. This involves cutting using heat beams generated by a resonator. The heat causes the metal to melt and consequently to cut. Whereas this process used to be considered very time-consuming, this is no longer the case with modern laser technology.

The main advantages

The advantages are mainly high precision and cutting speed. It focuses on a very small point, so the tolerance in laser cutting is also very small.

Types of sheet metal

The process is carried out on different types of sheet metal. These are:

– steel up to 20 mm,

– stainless steel up to 10 mm,

– aluminium up to 8 mm,

– brass up to 5 mm,

– copper up to 5 mm.

Laser cutting machines

  • Fiber laser with a rated power of 3kW is the fastest alternative for sheet metal cutting
  • It achieves particularly good results when cutting thinner sheet metal up to 8 mm thick.
  • When cutting structural steels, cutting up to 20 mm thickness is possible.
